Eurostat data on school dropout rates in 2025
According to Eurostat data published on Thursday, the school dropout rate in Cyprus for young people aged 18 to 24 reached 9.8% in 2025. This figure remains above the European Union's 9% target for 2030, though it marks an improvement from the 11.3% recorded in 2024. Over the last decade, Cyprus saw the largest increase in the EU, rising 4.6 percentage points from 5.2% in 2015. Germany and Austria followed with increases of 3% and 2.7% respectively. The EU average dropout rate in 2025 was 9.1%, with 17 member states already meeting the 2030 target. Across the union, the dropout rate remains higher among men at 10.6% compared to 7.5% for women. Countries with the lowest dropout rates in 2025 included Croatia at 2.1%, Greece at 3%, and Ireland at 3.6%. Conversely, the highest rates were reported in Romania at 15.5%, Germany at 13.1%, and Hungary at 12.8%.
