Unemployment statistics report for May 2026

In May 2026, the number of registered unemployed persons reached 7,936 according to the Statistical Service. This figure represents a 7.6% annual increase compared to May 2025, corresponding to 558 additional individuals. On a monthly basis, the number of registered unemployed decreased by 1,026 people. Seasonally adjusted data, which reflects broader labor market trends, showed a decline to 10,476 unemployed in May 2026 from 10,516 in April. The annual increase is primarily attributed to the sectors of accommodation and food service, administrative and support activities, transport, and professional, scientific, and technical activities. Specifically, in the accommodation and food sector, unemployment reached 1,177, compared to 934 in May 2025. In the wholesale and retail trade sector, the number of unemployed decreased to 1,380 from 1,489 in April. Professional, scientific, and technical services recorded 812 unemployed individuals in May.
