Bayer Leverkusen appoints Carles Martinez as new head coach

Bayer Leverkusen has officially parted ways with head coach Kasper Hjulmand, who had led the team since September 2025. Under Hjulmand's tenure, the club finished the season in 6th place and was eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League round of 16. The club has announced 42-year-old Carles Martinez Novell as his successor. Martinez previously served as the head coach of Toulouse from the summer of 2023 and also spent time working within the Barcelona youth academy, La Masia. The Catalan coach has signed a contract with Bayer Leverkusen lasting until the summer of 2028. This transition marks a significant leadership change for the German football club.
