Annita Demetriou re-elected as President of the House of Representatives

On June 4, 2026, the Cypriot Parliament held its first plenary session to elect the President of the House of Representatives. Zacharias Koulias, a member of the DIKO party, presided over the meeting as the senior member. During the voting process, Koulias noted a minor technical issue with the electronic voting system, humorously remarking that the button was unresponsive. Annita Demetriou was successfully re-elected as President of the House, a position she also held after the 2021 election. Following the results, Koulias engaged in a friendly exchange with Demetriou, jokingly suggesting she should be grateful as he has presided over both of her successful election processes. Additionally, during the session, Koulias publicly congratulated Ephraim Christou, the newly elected AKEL deputy from Limassol, for being the youngest member of the current House. The proceedings concluded with the formal installation of the leadership.
