Missing Sherpa guide found alive on Mount Everest after six days
On Thursday, June 4, a 52-year-old Sherpa mountain guide named Dawa, also known as Hillary Dawa, was found alive on Mount Everest. He had been missing since May 29, after becoming separated from a Polish climber between camps 3 and 4. The guide was located by a team from the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee while he was crawling toward base camp. He was subsequently transported by helicopter to the HAMS hospital in Kathmandu. Dr. Nishant Dhakal of the intensive care unit reported that the guide is conscious and receiving treatment for frostbite. His family had previously given up hope and had begun memorial services on Wednesday. The incident occurred as they were returning from an unsuccessful summit attempt at the end of the climbing season.
