29th University of Cyprus Cultural Festival begins at Axiothea Mansion
The 29th University of Cyprus Cultural Festival commences this Friday at the Axiothea Mansion. The first part of the programme features a diverse range of artistic disciplines, including dance, shadow theatre, silent cinema, and various genres of music. Notable performers include the German Record Critics’ Awards nominee Nabu Pera, who will open the festival with the performance Soundscapes of Nicosia. Other featured artists include Cretan musician Stelios Petrakis, Bijan Chemirani, Efrén López, and composer Antonis Mitzelos. The schedule also highlights a jazz performance by the Dimitris Angelakis trio, songs featuring lyrics by Alkis Alkaeos performed by Koulis Theodorou, and contemporary dance by Panayiotis Tofi. Additionally, the programme includes a silent film screening with live piano accompaniment by Andrea Goretti and traditional zurna and davul music by Kemal Devetzi and Aziz Kahraman. This series of events aims to bridge the gap between tradition and contemporary experimentation.
