Tender announced for Kato Pyrgos fishing shelter upgrade

The Public Works Department of Cyprus has announced a tender for the renovation and modernization of the Kato Pyrgos fishing shelter. The project, which has been requested by the local community for decades, carries a budget of €6,121,200 plus VAT. Nikos Kleanthous, the community leader of Kato Pyrgos, welcomed the announcement as a vital investment for regional development. The work includes extending and strengthening the main breakwater using natural boulders and concrete elements to protect against winter wave action. Additionally, the project involves dredging to increase the basin depth, allowing for larger vessels to dock safely. These upgrades are intended to revitalize the local fishing industry, boost tourism, and support the economy of the Tillyria region. The initiative addresses long-standing infrastructure concerns and improves maritime safety for both professional and recreational sailors.
