President Christodoulides attends EU-Western Balkans summit in Montenegro

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides traveled to Tivat, Montenegro, to attend the EU-Western Balkans summit. Accompanied by Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, the President participated in plenary sessions and working lunches focused on regional stability and European integration. During his intervention, President Christodoulides highlighted Cyprus's active role in prioritizing the region's European path. He cited the creation of an ad hoc working group for Montenegro's accession treaty and ongoing progress regarding Albania’s integration chapters as tangible results. Additionally, he welcomed the recent Council decision to initiate work on including the region in the EU roaming zone, facilitating integration for citizens and businesses. The President emphasized that Western Balkan partners must continue implementing reforms and align with EU values to ensure a merit-based accession process. He concluded that the era of mere promises is over, calling for concrete actions to finalize the region's inclusion in the European Union.
