Annita Demetriou continues her tenure as President of the House of Representatives
Annita Demetriou has commenced her second term as the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus on June 4, 2026. She holds the distinction of being the first woman and the youngest individual to occupy this constitutional position. In March 2023, she was also elected President of the Democratic Rally (DISY) party. Her parliamentary career began in 2016 when she was elected as a deputy for the Larnaca constituency, followed by her re-election in 2021. Demetriou holds a degree in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cyprus and a Master’s degree in International Relations and European Studies from the University of Kent. Prior to her full-time political career, she worked in higher education as a lecturer and academic director. Her early public service experience includes being the first woman elected as a community councilor in her home village of Troulloi.
