Ukrainian naval drones found in Greece and Romania
In early June 2026, two separate incidents involving Ukrainian naval drones were reported in the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. An unmanned vessel was discovered near the island of Lefkada in Greece, leading to a formal protest by the Greek government. In response, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry issued a formal apology, attributing the incident to the operational conditions of the ongoing war against Russia. Simultaneously, another Ukrainian naval drone lost control due to Russian electronic warfare interference and reached the port of Constanta, Romania. On June 5, 2026, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the device self-detonated at the Romanian port. Romanian authorities had previously secured the area and evacuated civilians, preventing any casualties. Kyiv confirmed the loss of the vessel in the Black Sea and stated they informed Romanian naval forces to ensure public safety. Both incidents are linked by Ukrainian officials to the broader security threats posed by the Russian conflict.
