Comparison of meat prices in the occupied territories and the Republic of Cyprus

A report by Yeni Duzen indicates that red meat prices in the occupied territories are significantly higher than in the government-controlled areas of Cyprus. Data shows that lamb is approximately 70% more expensive in the north, costing 1,300 Turkish Lira (25 euros) per kilogram compared to 765 liras (14.5 euros) in the south. Minced beef is priced at 1,150 liras (22 euros) in the occupied territories, which is 82% higher than the 633 liras (12 euros) charged in the south. Fresh meat prices show a 58% difference, costing 500 liras (approx. 9.5-10 euros) in the north versus 317 liras (6 euros) in the south. The report attributes these rising costs to persistent inflation and the decline in purchasing power among residents of the occupied territories. These findings highlight the ongoing economic disparity and the impact of the current inflation cycle on food affordability in the region.
