Diko president Nicolas Papadopoulos proposes unity among centrist parties

Democratic Party (DIKO) president Nicolas Papadopoulos has announced his intention to revive a proposal for the consolidation of centrist political forces in Cyprus. Speaking on a Cyprus Times podcast, he clarified that the plan involves the potential creation of a new political entity rather than the absorption of other parties by DIKO. Papadopoulos acknowledged that previous efforts to align with EDEK, DIPA, and the Ecologists before the elections were unsuccessful, admitting that the party's own lack of a comprehensive proposal may have contributed to that failure. Future progress is contingent upon formal consultations within DIKO's internal governing bodies. Regarding smaller entities such as ALMA and Amesi Dimokratia, he stated they must first define their ideological positions before participating in any coalition. Additionally, Papadopoulos criticized the political exclusion of ELAM, arguing it ultimately strengthened the party. He also touched upon other national political matters, including his support for Annita Demetriou and his history of conflict with Odysseas Michaelides.
