Regional authorities in Larnaca and Paphos implement water conservation measures
The Larnaca District Local Government Organization (EOA) has invested 600,000 euros since January to repair leaks and replace infrastructure, specifically in Kiti and Athienou. These efforts resulted in a 20% water loss reduction in Kiti and 31% in Athienou, with the EOA launching the 'Larnaca-26' campaign in June to reduce daily per capita consumption by 26 liters. Simultaneously, the Municipality of Paphos has partnered with the EOA and local traffic police to establish a unified protocol for rapid response to network failures. This collaboration aims to shorten permit and repair times for public infrastructure. Paphos is also transitioning from using potable water to alternative sources, such as recycled water and boreholes, for irrigation. Both districts are focusing on network monitoring and modernization to address water scarcity despite improved dam levels compared to 2025.
