AKEL leader criticizes TikTok video featuring House President and Fidias Panayiotou

General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, recently criticized a TikTok video featuring the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, and MEP Fidias Panayiotou. Stefanou characterized the content of the video as populist, arguing that it offers oversimplified solutions to complex social issues without explaining the methods of implementation. He emphasized that the House of Representatives lacks executive powers to directly enact such policies. The AKEL leader insisted that any serious political proposal must include a concrete budget and a funding plan. During the discourse, Stefanou highlighted an AKEL proposal aimed at addressing low birth rates. This proposal suggests financial grants of 5,000 euros for the first child, 10,000 euros for the second, and 15,000 euros for the third. He noted that this initiative has been costed at approximately 70 million euros annually. Stefanou further stated that he had previously discussed these family support issues with Panayiotou.
