Air Canada suspends flights to Cuba citing uncertainty
On Friday, Air Canada announced the indefinite suspension of all flights to Cuba, citing prevailing political and economic uncertainty. This decision follows recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding potential U.S. intervention in the country. The move coincides with reports from the Canadian company Blue Diamond Resorts, which confirmed the closure of 62 of its hotel properties on the island last week. Cuba is currently experiencing severe shortages of food, medicine, and fuel due to the de facto U.S. embargo, which has disrupted the energy grid. Residents report power outages lasting up to 22 hours per day, alongside critical water shortages. The island relies heavily on humanitarian aid shipments from nations including Mexico and China to address these internal crises. Transportation links to and from Cuba have been significantly curtailed as a result of these conditions.
