Large-scale drone exchanges reported between Russia and Ukraine

Between June 6 and 7, 2026, intensified drone hostilities occurred between Russia and Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the interception of 339 drones within 13 hours, while other sources mentioned up to 376 drones targeted Russian territory, including the Leningrad region and Moscow. Ukrainian forces confirmed strikes against oil facilities in the Leningrad and Krasnodar regions, as well as naval arsenals near St. Petersburg, timed during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the strikes were a response to ongoing Russian aggression and that the drones traveled approximately 1,000 kilometers. Russian officials, including St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov and Leningrad Governor Alexander Drozdenko, reported damage and flight disruptions, including temporary closures at Pulkovo Airport. Simultaneously, Ukraine accused Russian forces of attacking two civilian search and rescue vessels in Ukrainian waters, resulting in injuries. Tensions remain high following Vladimir Putin's recent rejection of peace talk proposals put forward by Ukraine.
