Fire damages historic house in central Paphos

On June 6, 2026, a fire broke out in an abandoned two-story residence in the Mousalla area of Paphos, near the Metropolitan Church of Saint Theodore. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze in the early morning hours, with reports of the time varying between 5:46 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. Two fire engines were deployed, and responders successfully extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures. While some news sources stated the building was vacant, others reported that homeless individuals had been staying in the residence and were able to evacuate safely. The property is known as the family home of former First Lady Androulla Vassiliou, though it was sold by her family to a foreign national several years ago.
