Government launches pilot school breakfast program in Larnaca and Famagusta

The Cypriot government has launched a pilot program titled 'Breakfast for All' providing prepared meals to public kindergarten students in the Larnaca and Famagusta districts. The initiative, announced by the President as part of the 2026 state planning, aims to improve child nutrition in accordance with World Health Organization standards. The meals are developed by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth in collaboration with clinical dietitians. Approximately 3,600 children are currently participating, with 2,600 in Larnaca and 1,000 in Famagusta. The program, which selected a contractor via an open tender process, has an estimated pilot phase cost of €1,500,000. Funding is provided by a donation from Allwyn (OPAP Cyprus), with the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation set to contribute additional items starting in September. The program seeks to ensure equal access to nutrition for young pupils.
