Pilot breakfast program launched in Cyprus kindergartens

The Cypriot Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth has launched a pilot program titled “Breakfast for All” in public kindergartens within the Larnaca and Famagusta districts. The initiative, approved by the Council of Ministers as part of the 2026 government agenda, provides daily prepared breakfasts to approximately 3,600 children, with 2,600 students in Larnaca and 1,000 in Famagusta. The nutritional content of the meals was developed by the Ministry’s health experts in collaboration with clinical dietitians, aligning with World Health Organization standards. The program’s implementation is managed by a contractor selected via an open tender process. The pilot project has a budget of approximately €1,500,000, funded by a donation from Allwyn (OPAP Cyprus). Additionally, the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation plans to contribute specific items to the scheme starting in September. The initiative aims to support families and promote healthy nutritional habits among young students.
