Car fire following collision on Nicosia-Limassol motorway
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, a vehicle collision occurred on the motorway connecting Nicosia and Limassol near the Choirokitia exit. A car driven by a 34-year-old man, with two 40-year-old passengers, struck the rear of a vehicle driven by a 48-year-old woman. Reports differ slightly on the specific lane changes and timing, with one source placing the incident just after midnight and another at 12:30 am. Following the initial collision, the 34-year-old’s car struck the motorway railings and subsequently caught fire. All three occupants managed to exit the vehicle safely before it was destroyed. The Fire Service extinguished the blaze at the scene. Both drivers tested negative for alcohol consumption. The 34-year-old driver and the 48-year-old woman were transported to Larnaca General Hospital as a precautionary measure, while the two passengers remained uninjured. The Zygi Police Station is currently investigating the incident.
