Omonia Nicosia commemorates the 1971 stadium project as the club explores a new facility
On June 6, 1971, Omonia Nicosia announced plans to build a private sports complex in Mia Milia. The project was designed to accommodate 20,000 spectators and include facilities for football, volleyball, tennis, basketball, and athletics. Construction began in late 1971, but the project was abandoned following the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, which resulted in the occupation of the Mia Milia area. The Omonia Veterans Group recently marked the 55th anniversary of the initial announcement. This commemoration coincides with a recent decision by the current club president, Stavros Papastavrou, to initiate the process of building a new, private stadium for the club. The club aims to realize this long-standing objective after decades of delay.
