Escalating legal disputes between Olympiacos BC and Panathinaikos BC following Stoiximan GBL finals
Following the second final game of the Stoiximan GBL, both Olympiacos BC and Panathinaikos BC have filed formal complaints with sporting authorities. Olympiacos requested that the Permanent Committee for Combating Violence (DEAV) and the HEBA sports judge impose a one-game closed-doors penalty on Panathinaikos, alongside a 100,000 euro fine and a five-year stadium ban for owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos. Olympiacos separately sought a two-year ban and a 100,000 euro fine for Giannakopoulos through the HEBA sports judge. Simultaneously, Panathinaikos filed a complaint against Olympiacos coach Georgios Bartzokas and General Director Nikos Lepeniotis, alleging defamatory statements, targeting of journalists, and inappropriate behavior towards fans and staff. Panathinaikos released video footage claiming to document abusive behavior by Bartzokas towards their fans and team manager Savvas Aronis. This follows an earlier dispute regarding refereeing, with Panathinaikos releasing a video of 18 contested plays from the first final game, which Olympiacos won 82-76. All actions were officially submitted on June 6, 2026, as both clubs continue to exchange accusations over conduct and competition integrity.
