Study on european travel preferences and sustainability trends
A new study by the European Travel Commission (ETC) and MINDHAUS identifies shifting trends in European tourism, focusing on sustainability and trip quality. The analysis defines five traveler profiles: Off-beat Destination Seekers, Gen Z Remote Adventurers, Hassle-free Holidaymakers, Impact-aware Travellers, and Eco-responsible Explorers. Findings indicate that 64% of Europeans now adopt at least one responsible travel behavior. Approximately 80% of respondents plan trips within Europe, with 40% budgeting over 1,500 euros per person. Travelers are increasingly choosing off-season periods, with 67% preferring travel during shoulder or low seasons. Additionally, 51% are selecting less popular destinations, and 50% plan stays exceeding seven nights. Popular travel types include sun and beach holidays at 22%, followed by city trips, cultural experiences, and nature-based activities at 15% each.
