Four men remanded in Cyprus over alleged terrorism plot targeting Israelis
The Larnaca district court has extended the detention of four men suspected of terrorism-related offenses. The suspects, aged 32, 38, 54, and 57, were held in separate behind-closed-doors hearings. Police discovered large quantities of explosive-making materials, including ammonium nitrate, at a property near Governor’s Beach and an apartment in Larnaca. Authorities state that one of the primary suspects admitted to plans targeting Israeli nationals. The 32-year-old and 38-year-old suspects remain in custody for an additional four days, while the 54-year-old and 57-year-old were previously remanded for five days. Investigation reports differ regarding the legal status and origins of the suspects, with some sources identifying them as Palestinian nationals while others mention potential links to an operational Hamas member based in Cyprus. Police are currently probing whether the detainees collaborated with additional individuals on the island. The 38-year-old suspect reportedly entered Cyprus via the north without proper documentation.
