EDEK president submits resignation following election failure
On June 7, the Central Committee of the EDEK party met in Nicosia to analyze the failure to enter parliament following the May 24 elections. Party President Nikos Anastasiou formally submitted his resignation during the meeting, citing personal responsibility for the negative electoral outcome. The Central Committee is currently deliberating on whether to accept his resignation. Lefteris Andreou, the Secretary of the Central Committee, has also previously submitted his resignation. While some reports suggest it is unlikely that Anastasiou's resignation will be accepted, the final decision remains pending as the meeting continues. Concurrently, the Green Party - Citizens' Cooperation is also meeting to discuss post-election reorganization, including financial constraints and the closure of provincial offices. Both parties are assessing their future political trajectory after losing parliamentary representation.
