Powerful earthquakes strike Evia, Greece

On June 7, 2026, a series of earthquakes hit northern Evia, Greece, with the strongest reaching 5.2 on the Richter scale. The initial tremor occurred at 12:58 local time with a magnitude of 4.8, followed by a 5.2 magnitude quake at 13:02. The epicenter for these events was located approximately 6 kilometers south of Prokopi. The seismic activity was also felt throughout the Attica region. Local authorities reported extensive property damage, including cracks in houses and businesses, as well as damage to the Church of Agios Georgios near Prokopi. Widespread landslides occurred, particularly affecting road networks in the Plakia and Dafnousa areas. Despite the intensity of the quakes, no injuries have been reported, and residents were able to evacuate buildings safely. Multiple smaller aftershocks measuring around 3.0 on the Richter scale were also recorded following the main events.
