10th ministerial meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum held in Washington
The 10th Ministerial Meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) took place in Washington on June 8, 2026. Presided over by Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou and U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, the meeting emphasized regional cooperation and the role of natural gas in European energy security. Member states including Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, and Palestine participated, while the U.S., EU, and World Bank attended as observers. Cypriot Minister of Energy Michalis Damianou held bilateral talks with Egyptian Minister Karim Badawi and representatives of the White House National Energy Dominance Council. The forum's joint communiqué reaffirmed the commitment to energy cooperation and respect for international law regarding natural resources. Following the summit, officials are set to participate in the 3+1 meeting and the inauguration of the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Center at the Baker Institute of Rice University in Houston. The new center aims to foster collaboration between universities, research institutions, and the private sector as outlined in the 2019 EastMed Act.
