Inauguration of the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Center in Houston

On June 11, the 3+1 group consisting of Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the United States will inaugurate the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Center in Houston, Texas. This initiative fulfills a provision of the 2019 EastMed Act, which established a framework for strategic cooperation in energy, technology, and research. The center is designed to serve as a hub connecting universities, research institutions, and the private sector. The ceremony will be held at the Baker Institute of Rice University. Attendees will include U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis, and Cypriot Minister of Energy George Papanastasiou. Israel will be represented by Ambassador Yechiel Leiter and ministry officials, as Energy Minister Eli Cohen canceled his attendance due to prior commitments. Prior to the inauguration, the 3+1 partners will hold a formal meeting to discuss regional cooperation. The center serves as the culmination of long-standing efforts to institutionalize regional energy ties.
