Polish accordionist wins the 22nd Eurovision Young Musicians competition

The 22nd Eurovision Young Musicians competition took place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Opera Theatre in Yerevan, Armenia. Nineteen-year-old Polish musician Michal Stochel won the first prize, becoming the first accordionist to achieve this distinction by performing the third movement of Mikołaj Majkusiak's Concerto Classico. This victory marks Poland's fourth win in the history of the event. The second place was awarded to Latvian marimbist Sonja Misina, and the third place went to Armenian flautist Elen Virabyan. Eleven young soloists from across Europe performed alongside the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Eduard Topchjan. Cyprus participated in the competition for the first time in 12 years, represented by 18-year-old clarinetist Iakovos Kedaritis. The event was broadcast in Cyprus via RIK 2 and the Fourth Radio Program.
