Political parties initiate nomination processes for the deputy mayor of Aglantzia

Political parties DISY, AKEL, and DIKO have begun internal processes to select candidates for the deputy mayor position in Aglantzia. DISY plans to hold an internal party vote this Friday to determine its candidate, with municipal councilors Prokopi Prokopiou and Christos Liverdos identified as potential contenders. Christos Liverdos is currently serving as acting deputy mayor, having received the most votes in the 2024 elections. Meanwhile, AKEL is also organizing internal procedures to finalize its selection, and discussions regarding a potential joint candidate among the parties are ongoing to avoid further electoral contests. Regarding DIKO, there is speculation about Kostas Kortas, a former mayor of Aglantzia, although he is scheduled to discuss the party's strategy with the DIKO leadership rather than confirm his own candidacy. Official nominations are set to be submitted on June 18, 2026. The election for the position of deputy mayor is scheduled to take place on June 28, 2026.
