Cyprus House of Representatives holds session to finalize committee structures

The Cyprus House of Representatives held a plenary session to appoint new parliamentary officials, including secretaries and a quaestor. Marios Pelekanos (ELAM) was appointed as the new House Quaestor, while Nikoletta Konstantinou (DISY) and Anastasia Hasikou (AKEL) were appointed as secretaries. A key task of the session was to elect members to the Committee of Selection, chaired by House President Annita Demetriou. The committee members include Savia Orphanidou, Dimitris Demetriou, and Georgios Karoullas (DISY); Stefanos Stefanou, Giorgos Loukaides, and Aristos Damianou (AKEL); Panikos Leonidou (DIKO); and Linos Papagiannis (ELAM). Discussions are ongoing regarding the potential consolidation of parliamentary committees, with the total number currently under consideration between 14 and 16. Only parties with at least seven deputies, specifically DISY, AKEL, DIKO, and ELAM, are entitled to claim committee chairmanships. Final decisions regarding the distribution of these chairs are expected to be presented for ratification at the next plenary session scheduled for June 18.
