Statistical report on rising food service and energy prices

According to the Statistical Service, prices in the food service sector continued to rise in May 2026. Restaurants and full-service establishments saw a 4% annual price increase in May, following a 5% increase the previous year and a peak of 7.3% in 2022. Canteen and cafeteria prices rose by 2.9% in May 2026, compared to a 4.4% increase in May 2025. Alcoholic beverages also experienced price hikes, with beer increasing by 1.65% in May 2026 after consecutive declines in 2023 and 2024. Broad economic data indicates that the largest year-on-year increases since May 2025 were recorded in petroleum products at 22.9% and agricultural products at 4.7%. Additionally, electricity and water costs saw a 5.5% increase in May 2026 compared to April 2026. Analysts attribute these persistent inflationary trends to rising costs for energy and raw materials.
