Concerns arise over rising sunbed and umbrella costs in Cyprus

The Cyprus Consumers Association reports a surge in complaints regarding increased fees for beach umbrellas and sunbeds at organized beaches. Legal Officer Virginia Christou stated that large families are disproportionately affected by these higher costs. The price hikes follow a decision by the Central Beaches Committee to raise maximum allowable charges, a policy being implemented by various municipalities and contractors. Christou warned that additional price increases may occur throughout the summer season. Further complaints involve allegations of manually altered payment receipts, raising transparency concerns. Beachgoers also report being forced to rent complete sets of sunbeds and umbrellas, even when visiting individually. The Association emphasizes that all organized beaches are legally required to display official price lists.
