Investigation launched following threats against Annita Demetriou
Police in Cyprus are investigating death threats received via email by Annita Demetriou, the President of the House of Representatives and leader of the DISY party. The emails, which were reported as sent from an overseas address, claimed an assassination attempt against her was being prepared. In response to the incident, police have implemented visible and discreet security measures to protect the official. Furthermore, Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis has ordered an internal investigation to determine if the details of the email were leaked by law enforcement personnel. DISY members previously expressed dissatisfaction regarding the handling of the leak. Demetriou stated that she feels safe while acknowledging the necessity of a thorough investigation to provide clear answers. Authorities remain in constant contact with Demetriou's security team and have indicated that further official announcements will be made once the investigation concludes. The situation gained public attention following a social media post by online personality Ioanna Photiou.
