ETEK submits comprehensive plan to revive Nicosia city center
The Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) has submitted a formal proposal to President Nikos Christodoulides calling for a centralized, high-level strategy to revitalize the center of Nicosia. ETEK President Constantinos Constanti argued that previous efforts have failed due to a lack of unified coordination and institutionalized monitoring. The report cites the abandoned plans to house ministries in the Archigrammateia and Faneromeni areas, as well as the underutilization of the former GSP site, as primary examples of past failures. Furthermore, the chamber criticized standalone traffic interventions on Makarios Avenue, stating they lacked essential supporting infrastructure like public transport and parking solutions. ETEK maintains that a successful urban revival requires inter-ministerial cooperation and continuous political oversight. The chamber insists that the project is of national importance, impacting the capital's economic resilience, social cohesion, and overall quality of life.
