Acting Mayor of Paphos calls for investigation into online harassment

Acting Mayor of Paphos, Aggelos Onisiforou, has officially expressed concern regarding online activity targeting local government officials. He noted the emergence of specific social media accounts and websites that systematically attempt to discredit him and other public figures. Mr. Onisiforou stated that this occurs during a sensitive period involving ongoing legal procedures and political debates in the city. He argued that such behavior undermines public discourse and the functioning of local institutions. The Acting Mayor has officially requested that the Cyprus Police and the Ministry of Justice and Public Order examine the evidence he intends to provide. He urged authorities to determine whether these actions constitute defamation, intimidation, or other illegal activities. He emphasized that the responsibility for investigating these matters rests solely with state authorities and not with private citizens on social media.
