Death of legal professional and 1974 reserve officer Panos Ioannides
Panos Ioannides, a legal professional and founder of the Apelitherosi 2025 movement, passed away on Monday. In 1974, he served as a reserve second lieutenant in the Cypriot National Guard. On August 15, 1974, he led a 40-man platoon during the evacuation of Famagusta under intense Turkish fire. Before departing, his unit lowered the Greek flag while presenting arms. Throughout his life, Ioannides remained an advocate for the liberation of the occupied territories of Cyprus and opposed the Annan Plan. He was also a published author, known for his work 'The Bloody Truth'. Additionally, he held the rank of captain in the National Guard until several years ago.
