Anti-corruption authority to release findings on former President Anastasiades
The Cyprus Independent Authority Against Corruption is expected to release its findings by June 15 regarding allegations made in Makarios Drousiotis's book, 'Mafia State'. The investigation focused on claims of corruption involving former President Nicos Anastasiades, as well as allegations of illegal surveillance of the author's electronic devices. The investigation process lasted approximately 28 months, involving extensive evidence collection, although sources provide varying figures on the scope of the inquiry, citing between 129 and 150 witness testimonies and between 550 and 793 items of evidence. The final report is reported to be 3,000 pages long and represents the most complex investigation conducted by the Authority to date. Since the delivery of the report on April 30, officials have been working exclusively on evaluating its findings under strict confidentiality. Former President Anastasiades has stated he will await the results of the investigation and handle the matter accordingly, emphasizing that any potential criminal acts must be substantiated by evidence. The outcome of this process may carry significant legal and political implications for the former president.
