Minister of Education visits school lunch program

On Monday, Minister of Education, Sport and Youth Athena Michaelidou visited the Kaimakli A and B primary schools to evaluate the 'Cook and Offer' program. The initiative is run by the Sophia for Children Foundation and has been in operation since September 2013 to address social needs arising from the economic crisis. The program, which was first implemented in these specific schools during the 2016-2017 academic year, provides daily healthy meals to students. Currently, the program operates in 28 kindergartens and primary schools across Cyprus. According to the Minister, the initiative aims to reduce financial burdens on vulnerable families and ensure equal access to nutrition for students. The implementation of the program also involves the employment of unemployed mothers to prepare the meals. The visit was conducted to gather feedback and assess the ongoing effectiveness of the initiative.
