Residents protest against EAC infrastructure in Pano Polemidia

On June 9, 2026, residents of the Adonis II housing complex in Pano Polemidia, Limassol, held a protest during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Adonis III project, attended by President Nikos Christodoulides. The demonstrators expressed concerns regarding the proximity of existing and planned Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) pylons and a new substation to their homes, citing health and safety risks. Residents noted that they have been seeking the removal of these installations since 2021, claiming they were misled by authorities regarding the planning. In response, President Christodoulides acknowledged that the residents' concerns are fully justified. He confirmed that he has initiated communication with the EAC to review the project design, noting that one site is currently only ten meters from a residence. A formal meeting between the residents, the local mayor, and EAC representatives has been scheduled for Friday to discuss the matter further.
