Supreme Court annuls search warrant against lawyer Nikos Clerides

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Cyprus annulled a search warrant executed against lawyer Nikos Clerides in relation to the 'Sandy case'. The warrant, which covered the lawyer’s home, office, and vehicles, was challenged by his legal team, including Christos, Alexandros, and Konstantinos Clerides. The challenge was based on eight grounds, with the court finding merit in six of them, primarily concerning insufficient evidence and the violation of legal professional privilege. The investigation was originally initiated following allegations published by journalist Makarios Drousiotis. During the proceedings, the attorney-general’s office did not oppose the application, effectively conceding procedural deficiencies. As a result of the ruling, all seized material must be returned to Nikos Clerides. Furthermore, any evidence or testimony obtained through these searches has been declared inadmissible by the court. Alexandros Clerides stated that this decision marks the beginning of efforts to restore his client's rights.
