Cyprus government approves 2026 support grants for mountain and remote area residents

On June 9, 2026, the Cypriot Council of Ministers officially approved the 2026 support grants for residents of mountainous regions and non-retired workers in remote areas. Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou stated that these programs aim to retain local populations, attract new residents, and support rural development. Eligibility is granted to residents of communities at altitudes over 600 meters, as well as non-retired employees living in communities at least 40 kilometers from an urban center, or between 30 and 39 kilometers away at an altitude above 700 meters. Applications must be submitted to local community councils between June 12 and July 10, 2026. Data from the previous year indicates that in 2025, 8.95 million euros were distributed to 14,576 households, benefiting 31,975 residents. The government frames these measures as part of a broader strategy to revitalize rural and mountainous areas.
