Public Service Commission to rule on suspension of Tourism Ministry Director General
The Public Service Commission (PSC) is set to review a request by Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis to place Director General Neofytos Papadopoulos on a three-month suspension. The dispute between the two officials allegedly stems from a disagreement in March regarding the handling of tourism management following a drone attack at Akrotiri. While the Deputy Minister identified a tourism crisis, the Director General held a contrary view, leading to an apparent collapse in their working relationship. Lawyers for the Director General, led by Chris Triantafyllides, are expected to file an objection by Thursday. The defense intends to argue that the request for suspension is invalid because it originates from a ministry structure they claim is unconstitutional. They argue that the Constitution of Cyprus does not provide for the creation of Deputy Ministries or the appointment of Deputy Ministers. This legal challenge could potentially force a definitive judicial ruling on the constitutionality of the current administrative structure.
