Cyprus announces Athena 2030+ defense research program

On Tuesday, the Cypriot Ministry of Defense launched the 'Athena 2030+' program aimed at bolstering research, technological development, and innovation in the defense and security sectors. The initiative has a total budget of €3,500,000, with selected projects eligible for up to 85% funding. Projects must be completed within a maximum timeframe of three years. The launch event was attended by Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas, the Chief of the National Guard, and various stakeholders from academic and research institutions. The program seeks to foster collaboration between state agencies, research organizations, and private entities to address the National Guard's operational needs. The first call for proposals focuses on four strategic priorities, including artificial intelligence for defense applications and unmanned systems for logistics and operations. The project aims to build a sustainable and export-oriented research ecosystem for the Republic of Cyprus.
