Elderly woman found dead in her home after being unnoticed for a long time in Cyprus
An elderly woman was found dead in her residence in Cyprus after a significant period had passed without anyone noticing her absence. The Cyprus Third Age Observatory expressed deep concern regarding this incident, describing it as a tragic reflection of the social isolation and inadequate support faced by many seniors in the country. The organization stressed that the care of the elderly must go beyond meeting basic survival needs to include regular human contact and the assurance of dignity. Consequently, the Observatory has issued a formal call to state services, local authorities, and community organizations to strengthen networks for the early identification of isolated seniors. They proposed the systematic mapping of the population aged 65 and over to better coordinate social visits and psychosocial support. The organization emphasized that no elderly person should be left invisible or forgotten. They have committed to continue advocating for the rights and improved quality of life for the elderly population.
