Isotita union files complaint against Cyprus at the International Labour Organization
On June 8, 2026, the Pancyprian Union Isotita filed a formal complaint with the International Labour Organization (ILO) against the Republic of Cyprus. The union alleges systematic violations of freedom of association and collective bargaining rights, specifically citing ILO Conventions 87, 98, 135, 151, and 190. Isotita claims the state, acting as an employer, has actively marginalized it while favoring the rival PASYDY union. A central point of contention is the state's financial support, with the union reporting that PASYDY received 8.4 million euros in government subsidies between 2017 and 2025, while Isotita received zero. The complaint also highlights the exclusion of Isotita from the Joint Personnel Committee (MEP) and from consultations regarding critical issues such as new pension policies. The union argues this creates a structural conflict of interest. The government has not yet provided a formal public response to these specific allegations. The complaint seeks to address the perceived imbalance of power and funding in the public sector labor landscape.
