Paris school program coordinators suspended following abuse allegations
On June 9, 2026, Paris deputy mayor Emmanuel Gregoire announced that 132 school program coordinators have been suspended since January 1 due to various offenses. Of this total, 52 coordinators were removed specifically over allegations of sexual or gender-based violence. The decision follows a broader public outcry in France regarding child safety, exacerbated by the recent death of an 11-year-old girl. The girl was allegedly killed by a man who had previously been the subject of multiple reports concerning the rape of minors. In response to these developments, the Paris municipal government is launching an independent investigation led by a former juvenile judge. This measure complements a 20-million-euro action plan for child protection previously announced by the city in April. The investigation aims to address the systemic issues surrounding sexual violence in extracurricular activities within Parisian schools.
