Supreme Court denies petition regarding Pyla casino search warrant
The Supreme Court has rejected an application for a writ of certiorari filed by a detainee at the Central Prisons regarding a search warrant executed in February at a casino in Pyla. The applicant, who manages the facility, challenged the legal basis of the warrant used by authorities. Police investigations, which began regarding alleged offenses committed in 2025, involve the applicant and two other individuals. The list of alleged offenses is extensive, including conspiracy to commit a felony, violations of the Convention against Torture, kidnapping, and deprivation of liberty with intent to cause serious bodily harm. The charges also feature the illegal possession and transport of explosives, extortion, demanding property with threats, and participation in a criminal organization. According to police testimony, the investigation gained momentum following the applicant's arrest on January 18, 2026. During that arrest, authorities seized two mobile phones as evidence. Digital forensic analysis of these devices reportedly yielded a significant amount of data relevant to the ongoing criminal investigation.
