Starship Technologies deploys delivery robots in Milton Keynes
The Estonian startup Starship Technologies has launched an autonomous food delivery service in the British town of Milton Keynes. The company utilizes six-wheeled robots, approximately the size of a beverage cooler, to navigate sidewalks and deliver orders to customers. These robots are equipped with a sensor array and artificial intelligence designed to calculate routes autonomously, even if the connection to a data center is interrupted. The devices operate at a maximum speed of 6 km/h and weigh 35 kilograms. The company claims that this robotic delivery method is more cost-effective than employing human couriers. While the complexity of navigating urban infrastructure is significant, the robots are designed to operate in various weather conditions. Milton Keynes was chosen for these operations due to its specific urban layout.
