Gunmen kill 12 in Johannesburg settlement attack

On Tuesday evening, a mass shooting occurred at the Jumpers informal settlement in Cleveland, east of Johannesburg, South Africa. Police confirmed that at least 12 people were killed and nine others were injured during the attack. More than 10 unidentified suspects are reported to have been involved in the incident. The assailants arrived at the scene in a white Toyota Quantum vehicle. They entered the settlement through two separate access points and opened fire at multiple locations simultaneously. After the attack, the suspects fled the area in the same white van. South African authorities have launched an active manhunt to locate the perpetrators. The motive for this violent assault remains unknown to law enforcement officials. South Africa currently experiences one of the highest murder rates in the world, with statistics averaging approximately 60 killings per day.
